The Heidelberg Project: Car Park Sites Concept Design and Feasibility StudyHeidelberg VIC Australia
Car Park Sites Concept Design and Feasibility Study
SJB Urban and SJB Architects, together with Rider Levett Bucknall, prepared concept designs and feasibility analysis for the development of two Council-owned car park sites in central Heidelberg.
The sites presented opportunities for mixed-use development adjoining Burgundy Street, creating new interfaces to existing development while retaining public parking provision, and establishing an enhanced public realm system of spaces and facilities.
For this project, SJB Urban planned, conducted and facilitated a 3-day Inquiry by Design workshop, which included three community/stakeholder review sessions and ongoing Council officer involvement. Attendees were able to witness the planning and design work in progress, provide feedback and comment, and then see the results of their comments, all within an intensive, compressed time period. The process was very positively received by participants and the outcomes strongly supported.
