Adina Hamburg

Hamburg Germany

When publishing company Der Spiegel moved to new headquarters, their former home - an 8 storey tower-block building -  was converted into one of Adina’s largest properties, with 202 serviced apartments designed mainly with the business traveller in mind.

SJB’s approach to the rejuvenation has been to look at both the building itself and its location within the city for design inspiration. The tonal palette throughout the interior ranges from musty browns to blue and green - celebrating the brown brick and patinaed copper prevalent in Hamburg’s architecture and the River Elbe, so intrinsic to the life of the city. Materials play on the character of Hamburg, through the use of rich textiles - stone, timber and copper.

The modernist feel of the interior, particularly in the ground floor restaurants, bar and reception, reference the building itself as well as its former occupant. The ground floor is extensive in scale, where thoughtful design and a wide variety of contemporary furniture create intimate spaces and a range of experiences.
