Replacing an existing on-grade carpark, 88 Harris Street will offer a new high-amenity workplace in the historical precinct of Pyrmont. The site is located adjacent to the recently refurbished heritage building at 100 Harris Street, which has had a significant influence on the design approach and functionality of the new building. With its highly textural façade, incorporating the use of a rich, quality red brick, the proposed design reinforces the character of the many historic masonry buildings in its context, whilst speaking strongly of its own layer of time.
The form of 88 Harris Street completes the street wall established by its neighbouring buildings and sits comfortably with their scale and character by referencing existing heights and reinforcing a strong rhythm of openings. The new façade frames a break between 88 Harris Street and 100 Harris Street allowing vistas through the block towards Pyrmont Street, providing a sense of orientation for the public and celebrating district views.
A significant landscaped courtyard at the rear of the building provides a high level of amenity for the future users of the new workplace and a visual amenity for all surrounding building users to look down into from above.
