Two projects announced finalist at the 2018 World Architecture Festival

August 2018

Sydney Harbour Residence, a grand visionary dwelling and Aqueous, an ethereal temporary installation for Zip Water, have been nominated for this year’s World Architecture Festival (WAF).

Held in Amsterdam for the first time, WAF is dedicated to celebrating, sharing and inspiring outstanding architecture.

Shortlisted in the Future House category, Sydney Harbour Residence features a playful roof form to give definition to the spaces beneath. Each peak and trough to the roof compresses and stretches the spatial quality of the room below, allowing the architecture to create intimacy and scale where required. Living spaces are classic and grand, warm and inviting, but also talk to a sense of optimism and vision.

Aqueous is a finalist in the Display category of the interiors program INSIDE which runs parallel to the WAF awards. In partnership with Zip Water, SJB created an exciting product showcase that explored the fluid abstraction of water with Zip’s hydration solutions featured on mirrored plinths.

‘As designers, our role is to challenge expectations and make people think, so we responded to Zip’s brief with a totally unexpected concept. A space that had no fixed boundary but also contained activity and intrigue,’ says Adam Haddow.

This year we also have the pleasure of announcing that Adam Haddow will be an invited judge at the INSIDE awards where he will sit on a panel of two other judges. The shortlisted architects will present for 10 minutes each and will have the opportunity to question and exchange with each presenter for 10 minutes before deciding on a winning project.

Adam Haddow, David Leece (BLP) and Michael Grant (Cornerstone Property Group) present to the 2015 Jury.

This is the fourth consecutive year SJB has had the good fortune of being a finalist at WAF. Casba was the first project in 2015 that was shortlisted and went on to win the category entry for Mixed-Use design.
