Melbourne Design Awards 2017

August 2017

Cantala has been selected as the Gold Winner in the Architecture – Residential – Constructed category of the 2017 Melbourne Design Awards.

The jury stated that the award in this category celebrates the design process and production of planning, designing and construction form, space and ambience that reflect functional, technical, social and aesthetic considerations“SJB is delighted to receive this award together with our client Icon Developments, representing the successful collaboration between architect and developer on this project,” says Tristan Wong, SJB Director.

Comprising 25 multi-storey townhouses, a low-rise block of 44 apartments, basement car parking and the retention of a public landscaped thoroughfare through the site, Cantala marries the best of contemporary place-making and the aesthetics of leafy Melbourne.

Cantala questions the typology of living; challenging the notion of public versus private. It defies the notion of what a building, an apartment building or townhouse should look like while positing itself as a neighbourhood model – a design that demonstrably embraces the shift in the way we live.
