12-Micron
Barangaroo NSW Australia
Evocative of place, 12-Micron draws on the colours, tones and textures of a Spotted gum. Exploring a uniquely Sydney interior from stone floors to floating clouds and bark like leathers. Beautifully realised, subtle and elegantly luxurious with careful planning to allow everyone, including staff, spectacular harbour views.
As part of the Barangaroo foreshore it was essential that a Sydney aesthetic be developed to harmonise, but not compete, with the harbour views. Drawing on Sydney’s native flora and urban context, the combination of a gridded pattern overlay is contrasted with the natural texture of eucalyptus. Additionally, the design references the indoor/outdoor lifestyle of Sydney with exterior finishes, such as stone cobbles, used indoors. To this end, tiles and cobles in green grey, blur boundary lines with floor details wrapping up the walls. Spotted gum has been used extensively for rich tonal nuance, while plums, greens and blues evoke the colours of a gum leaf. A rough bark texture has been introduced through leathered finished granite and loose fit leather sofas and banquets with ruffled detailing.
